Tax document checklist

Choose the situation closest to yours. More than one checklist may apply.

A starting checklist, not a determination of residency, claim eligibility or all required tax schedules. The enquiry summary contains categories only; do not add sensitive documents to it.

Filing date versus balance-payment date

The personal options cover the 2025 tax year. The corporate option explains ordinary Part I income-tax deadlines relative to the corporation’s own year-end.

The self-employed extension changes filing, not the April 30 payment deadline. Special cases, including deceased taxpayers and surviving spouses, are excluded. The June filing option excludes businesses whose expenditures relate mostly to a tax shelter investment. A corporation’s three-month balance extension requires the applicable CCPC, small business deduction and taxable-income conditions, including associated corporations where relevant. Other corporate tax parts, amalgamations and wind-ups are outside this planner; a three-month extension does not apply to every tax shown on a T2. Confirm CRA instructions and weekend/public-holiday rules.

2026 personal income-tax instalment test

Use net tax owing as defined by CRA for the instalment test, not an unpaid account balance.

The applicable amount must be exceeded in 2026 AND in either 2025 or 2024. Threshold: $3,000, or $1,800 for Quebec residents for this federal test. No instalment amounts are calculated. Revenu Québec instalments are separate. Farmers and fishers have special rules and are outside this tool. Review the CRA reminder and calculation options.
