T1 adjustment support in Ottawa

A T1 adjustment changes a personal return that has already been filed and assessed. We compare the original figures, CRA assessment and new evidence to identify the specific lines and explanations needed for the correction.

Confirm the status before requesting a change

CRA instructs taxpayers to wait for the notice of assessment before requesting a change. If a previous change request is still pending, its outcome also needs to be considered. We retain the original return and assessment so the review has a reliable starting point.

The proposed adjustment should explain what changed and why. An amended slip, missed receipt and disagreement with an assessment can require different evidence or processes. A routine correction request is not automatically the right route for a formal dispute.

An amended slip example

A hypothetical Ottawa employee’s original slip reports $81,000 of employment income and a replacement reports $79,800. The difference is $1,200, but both documents must be compared across all changed boxes. Entering the replacement as another $79,800 of income would duplicate the same employment record.

Keep the request and result connected

We organize the affected year, line changes, supporting documents and the agreed submission method. The taxpayer reviews the facts and any required authorization. The file retains submission evidence and is checked against the reassessment when it arrives.

We also identify whether the change affects another schedule or year. Refund timing and the final assessed result remain CRA matters. An objection deadline, contentious interpretation or other specialist issue is flagged for appropriate advice rather than assumed to be covered by an ordinary adjustment engagement.

Questions about this work

Should I file the whole return again?

Usually a correction uses the applicable change process after assessment. We review the situation before selecting a method; a second duplicate original return is not the default.

Can an adjustment request replace an objection?

Not necessarily. The issue and deadlines determine the appropriate route. Formal objections require a separately confirmed scope and advice.
